The base directory or URL that relative references in the document resolve against.

public string BasePath { get; set; }

A local value is always a directory, even when it names a file. A relative value is made absolute against the process working directory. While external resources are skipped, local resources load only from inside this directory.

An http or https URL makes relative references remote, so they load only when whitelisted.

A UNC path gives no base directory.

When the value is null or empty, the base directory is the source file’s folder when the document is converted from a file path, and there is none when it is converted from a stream.
